“Beyond Machu Picchu with Kantu Inka” - Peruvian Andean Educational Concert - FREE! OPEN TO ALL ATTENDEES!

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Since 2003 “Kantu Inka – Machu Picchu, Peru” has taught Peruvian culture, history and geography with Andean instruments to over 30,0000 students of all ages in Nevada and California. Carlos Ocampo and Julie Lozada Ocampo unite their passions and expertise: Andean music and teaching. Carlos is a professional Andean folkloric musician and composer, proficient on zampoña, quena, bombo, charango and guitar. Julie was Nevada’s State World Language Teacher of the Year in 2014 and is a National Board-Certified Spanish teacher who plays zampoña and percussion for Kantu Inka.
Kantu Inka is proud to be included on the Nevada Arts Council’s “Artists in Schools + Communities Roster for 2019-2022.”

For this presentation open to all attendees, we will be presenting an educational concert where we demonstrate the different traditional Andean instruments in our collection while explaining their origin, construction, and history. As we share the information about each instrument (or offer Peruvian cultural details), we will then play Andean and Latin American folkloric songs to demonstrate techniques and sounds. In this interactive workshop, you will deepen your cultural awareness of Peruvian geography, music and history. We will share live music, images and information as we present the three regions of Peru with our collection of Andean Peruvian string, wind and percussion instruments. During our presentation, attendees will be encouraged to play the instruments, to dance to Peruvian rhythms and to interact with the musicians.
